CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – A man wanted in connection with a shooting at a Chapel Hill hotel was arrested and taken into custody Thursday by U.S. Marshals, Chapel Hill police said.RELATED: 1 person shot at Chapel Hill hotel, suspect on the run

Police had obtained warrants for the arrest of Benjamin Gilbert Uhlenberg, 36, following a shooting at the Red Roof Inn located at 5623 Chapel Hill Boulevard at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 3.

Police responded to a shooting call at the hotel and upon arrival, a person was located who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said. The person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Sept. 8 at approximately 10:20 a.m., Uhlenberg was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force (JTFT) in the 6400 block of Burlington Road in Whitsett, police said.

According to police, the U.S. Marshals had obtained information that Uhlenberg was traveling in the area in a vehicle, which was then located. Authorities followed Uhlenberg until he stopped in a parking lot. He was taken into custody without incident.

Uhlenberg is currently being held in Orange County Jail under a $70,000 secured bond. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was also served an additional warrant for arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
