DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham police are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest in connection with the 2015 murder of a North Carolina Central University student.
Police announced a CrimeStoppers reward of up to $2,000 for information in the murder of Dwight “DJ” Dewayne Grayer, 21, of Fayetteville, who was shot on Jan. 4, 2015.
Grayer was shot just after 6 p.m. while sitting in his car at the intersection of North Duke Street and Horton Road, police said.
Grayer was in his vehicle, a burgundy Chevrolet Impala, on Horton Road when a gray vehicle, believed to be a Hyundai Elantra, pulled up next to his car and a passenger inside began firing shots into Grayer’s car.
Since the shooting, investigators have determined that the Elantra had been sitting in the parking lot of the Joy Mart at the same intersection before pulling out and stopping next to Grayer’s car. After the shooting, the suspects turned left and fled northbound on Duke Street, police said.
Grayer was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He died as a result of his injuries on Sept. 17, 2015.
A passenger in Grayer’s vehicle was not injured.
