WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A three-hour search for a 42-year-old woman who went missing from River Road Park near the Cape Fear River Sunday night has come to an end.RELATED: Woman kayaker missing near NC coast
The woman has not been identified, but was located safely. No word on where she was found.
The call for a missing woman came in just after 7:30 p.m. She had been kayaking throughout the day.
The kayak was retrieved from the water but no sign of the woman. The Coast Guard had called this an “unconfirmed person in the water case.”
According to Petty Officer Nate, Coast Guard crews were searching both on land in the water. It is unknown whether she left the kayak and went missing on land or fell out of the kayak in the water.
The Coast Guard was treating this case as if she may have fallen into the water, using a small boat crew, helicopter, and K-9’s to search for the woman.
