DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The Governor’s Crime Commission is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a Durham double homicide, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office announced.RELATED: Durham father and teenage son shot to death, investigation underway
The request for a reward to be offered was sent in by the sheriff’s office and then granted by the crime commission.
The reward is being offered in connection with the murder of Dewayne Carroll Greer Sr., 51, and Dewayne Carroll Greer Jr., 18, that occurred on June 10.
Around 3 p.m. on June 10, deputies responded to the 3700 block of Angier Avenue after a cardiac arrest call was received.
Upon arrival, the deputies the father and son who had been shot to death.
The sheriff’s office said they’re “confident the reward money will help” them in their efforts to find the person or people responsible for the murders.RELATED: Family still in shock following murder of Durham dad, son
“Our investigators have been working hard to give the victims’ family closure,” said Sheriff Mike Andrews. “We know the value of a single tip that can help our investigators make an arrest. If someone has information they can share, we want to hear from them.”
“I think that’s just a beautiful, gracious thing that they have done,” said Alice Greer, Dewayne Greer Sr.’s sister. “I’m very grateful and humbled that they would offer some reward money.”
She said the family feels hopeless but hopes the community will help investigators solve the case.
“I beg the community, if somebody knows something,” she said. “A neighbor, somebody knows something, anything that can help investigators.”
