HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WFMY) – A worried brother and a man with a drone used the power of social media to save someone trapped in a flooded house.
Craig Williams was worried about his brother, Chris, and contacted WFMY News 2 early Sunday morning. Chris Williams is a Cumberland County resident and Navy veteran. He and his dog Lana, who cannot swim, were stuck in his house because of Hurricane Matthew flooding.
WFMY News 2 called Cumberland County 911. They said they were working on getting someone to help but could not get there due to the flooding.RELATED: At least 8 dead, 5 missing in NC; 1000+ water rescues after Matthew slams state
Little did Craig know, a man posting drone pictures on social media would be the one to help rescue his bother.
Searching through #HopeMills on Twitter, the city his brother lives in, he found a drone picture of homes almost completely flooded.
Trying to cheer up his brother he sent this picture and teased him that at least this isn’t his house, but the house all the way to the right actually was where Chris was stranded.
Craig, who is all the way in Texas, immediately asked the man who took the drone picture if he could help his brother.
Craig explained that his brother was stuck in the house with his dog. The drone photographer stopped what he was doing, went back to the scene and flagged down a nearby FEMA crew with his drone. The crew saved Chris and his dog.
