RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – New details have been released in the hit-and-run death of a cyclist that happened on Western Boulevard Wednesday night.

Amy Ellen Franklin, 25, faces several charges after Raleigh police said she hit and killed 56-year-old Bryan Scott Goforth while he was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk near Western’s intersection with Hillsborough Street just before midnight.RELATED: 25-year-old charged with killing cyclist on Raleigh’s Western Boulevard

According to police, Franklin was driving a 1996 Buick sedan when she slammed into Goforth at approximately 45 mph at the time of impact. There were no tire impressions found on the pavement at the scene of the collision. Franklin fled the scene.

About an hour after the collision, officers pulled over Franklin near the intersection of Cross Link and Hadley roads.

She was arrested on charges of texting while driving, driving with having an open container of alcohol, felony hit and run, felony death by motor vehicle, and DWI.

According to an arrest report, Franklin’s car was missing a tire and she smelled of alcohol when she was pulled over. The report states that she admitted that she had been drinking before taking a breath test.

Franklin’s BAC was .07 at the time of the test, which is below the legal limit of .08. She admitted to police she had been drinking and had taken Xanax.

Franklin called her mom, not an attorney, the report shows.

She is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $505,000 secured bond.
