PEACHLAND, N.C. (WBTV) – The Anson County sheriff says a man was fatally shot Friday afternoon after he reportedly pointed a rifle at a deputy.UPDATE: NC man fatally shot after pointing rifle at deputy ID’d

It happened along Upper White Store Road in Peachland near Highway 74 Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews were first called tot he scene after a man is believed to have suffered from a stroke. When they arrived, they said the man was combative and requested backup from the Anson County Sheriff’s Office.

During a press conference Friday afternoon, the Sheriff Landric Reid says when backup arrived, the man pointed a rifle at the deputy.

Sheriff Reid said both the victim and the deputy were white males. No names have been released.

This is third officer-involved shooting since November in Anson County.

The State Bureau of Investigations is looking into the incident.
