PEACHLAND, N.C. (WBTV) – The Anson County sheriff said a man was fatally shot Friday afternoon after he reportedly pointed a rifle at a deputy.RELATED: Man was fatally shot after pointing rifle at NC deputy, sheriff says
It happened along Upper White Store Road in Peachland near Highway 74 Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews were first called to the scene after a man, identified as Bobby Rex Horne, was believed to have suffered from a stroke. When they arrived, they said Horne was combative, so they requested backup from the Anson County Sheriff’s Office.
During a press conference Friday afternoon, the Sheriff Landric Reid said when backup arrived, Horne pointed a rifle at the deputy.
Sheriff Reid said both Horne and the deputy were white males. The deputy’s name has not been released.
Horne’s daughter told WBTV that her father had been battling Alzheimer’s, and that “the disease robbed him of his mind but never robbed him of his loving heart.”
The daughter said the family does not blame the deputy for shooting Horne, and that they are praying for him.
This is third officer-involved shooting since November in Anson County.
The State Bureau of Investigations is looking into the incident.
